Notes on Mr. D and his Business |
|
    |
Mr. D has vivid memories of his life in Greece. Baptized on the Island of Tinos, his roots lie in Mediterranean waters, noon-time siestas, bouzouki, octopus and open-air markets.
Luckily, he has made his new home here at the Pike Market, where he opened in 1980.
Demetrios Moraitis loves the Market and is a vital part of its community. His "Greek Delicacies" have had an impact on many people's lives and their appetites. |

Mr. D's talents are not limited to fine Greek Cooking. He has artistic flairs in sculpting, music (bouzouki), dancing, and many other areas. In recent years he has gained popularity with his Yeero Sculptures. The fact that they are frozen meat sculptures may sound a bit strange, or even bizzare, yet many people find them fascinating and incredible. It is actually quite a feat to achieve one such short lived Yeero Sculpture. Every few hours of work, it needs to be put back to freeze several times before its round of triumph. |

And Mr. D is indeed a very patient person. He will always find the time to talk to his clients, sharing his own experiences and finding out more about them. Talkative and friendly, to say the least, he is the Market's very own "Zorba the Greek". |
'Mr. D's Greek Delicacies' has been written up in many "best places" books and has become familiar to many people. Located at the Triangle building on the Main level of the Pike Place Market, "Mr. D's" is three businesses in one :
- At the sidewalk counter stop, there is food "to go", like Yeero Sandwitches, Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Greek backed Deserts, various Dips etc. - Deli style, from the window, there are available for sale fine imported Greek Food Items. - At the back, we prepare Special Orders, to be picked up at the Deli or to be delivered anywhere in Seattle. Many of the Greek gourmet dishes are prepared from the Chef himself.
"Hunger has no eyes", states a Greek saying. Indeed, Mr. D's Greek Delicacies may also be easily located by following your most trusted sence, i.e. your nose, directly to the place. |
